It is with heavy hearts the family of Junanne Hunter announces her peaceful passing on Monday, January 26, 2026, at the Grace Hospital after a short illness.
Junanne was born on April 6, 1955, in Zweibruken Germany where her parents were stationed on the Air Force base.
She is survived by her brother Jeff (Debi), her sisters Sandy (Keith) and Lori, her nephews Brian (Carleigh) Adam (Terilyn) and niece Lisa (Scott) and great-great niece Emma and great-great nephews Liam, Landon, Moses, Gus and Henry.
Junanne took her nursing degree from Health Science Centre and graduated in the class of 1976. She started her nursing career in hospitals in New Orleans and Los Angles and then returned to Winnipeg to spend 35 years in Health Science Centre's Emergency Department. She described her work as a nurse as a "calling" not a job. She was an excellent nurse with endless compassion for her patients.
She loved her family, especially her niece and nephews and their children. She had a special talent with kids and pets and always bought the most interesting Christmas presents for the children, making sure her purse was full of spare batteries on Christmas morning. Her sister Sandy's dog Jersey enjoyed many playful hours of fetching balls with Junanne.
She found peace and tranquility sitting by Manitoba's many lakes and beaches and loved touring small Manitoba towns, checking out their restaurants and other attractions. She could have written a book on the town of Gimli and was an excellent tour guide for anyone who joined her there.
The family would like to thank the emergency room and 5th floor staff of the Grace Hospital for their wonderful care of Junanne while she was a patient there.
Junanne will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Cemetery in a private family interment this spring.
